Another movie review said: “This (Mystery Men) is one of the few films in the paroxysmal-demotic comedy genre that has improved since I let it mature on my shelf at home. Ben Stiller may not be a great expressive actor, but for yours truly, he is one of the most promising new generation comedians. The other actors are also good and the film’s plot is particularly entertaining. The superheroes in the film are all absurd and outdated. I recommend it to fans of comic and parodic superheroes, and especially to fans of the likeable but unfortunately unexpressive Ben Stiller, whom I particularly like despite the fact that he has become like parsley.”
Such a fair review… and so awful at the same time!
Because everything that’s being said about Ben Stiller is precisely totally wrong. It’s exactly the opposite, in fact!
Another critic said: “Brilliant great film!! Anyone who doesn’t recognise the immense intelligence behind the stupid facade should stick with American Pie. Ben Stiller, Azaria, and Macy are a brilliant trio who represent the underrated ingenuity of Hollywood’s permanent roles.”
I totally agree this time! And I’m still going to put in a negative review from someone who didn’t get it… and to whom that second review was addressed! 😉
The reviewer said: “Mystery Men, I expected more from this film with such a cast. The film is almost never really funny.”
That’s it! Personally, I love this comic film, a parody of superheroes… but with real heroes, in spite of everything.
