The Maze Runner films are based on the dystopian action-adventure novels of James Dashner. I found them very entertaining. It’s rare for me to enjoy adventure films with teenagers, but this is definitely one of the best. Even if the first one is still the most interesting and mysterious, the sequels are pretty much equal. Interesting stories, a great team of friends, plenty of suspense. The action scenes are good, even if they’re really overdone at times, as in the first one.

Dylan O’Brien, the main actor in this trilogy, has a way of getting on my nerves! Even though I really kind of like him !!!  I first saw the film he made after this trilogy “Love and Monsters (2020)” where he was adorable… but so soft and lacking in confidence that it was unbearable at times.

The lead actress, who is one of the few female characters in the first film, is played by Kaya Scodelario. She’s absolutely brilliant in this relatively ambiguous role! The other actors I particularly like in this trilogy are Thomas Brodie-Sangster (who I loved in “Love Actually” and who plays Paul McCartney in the very good “Nowhere Boy”) and Will Poulter, even though he played in the very bad Black Mirror film: Bandersnatch!

There are bad characters who join the good guys’ clan, some very good characters die, betrayals, revenge and notions of “justice done”.  But, in the end, I was really taken in and had a good time. I watched them back to back. It would have been hard to see them in the cinema and had to wait several months, even years, for the sequels.
