Double Vice is a Dutch suspense drama movie. Right! Let’s be honest: as soon as I saw Netflix, I was clearly thinking “Oh No!” And I wish I could say that as soon as I saw the movie, I was like “Oh Yes!!!”

But it’s just about a woman who cheated on her husband in this movie who can actually say that!

It’s crazy! The main character in the movie is a judge. I already hated her for that alone.

Then we see her at work taking custody of her children from an impotent father. Impassive, she takes pride in doing a good job and making a good living. And even having guards protecting her when someone wants to jump her.

Then we see this woman leave with her best friend at the edge of the mother. And I have rarely seen a woman cheat on her husband so easily in a film, without any barriers or embarrassment. She gets approached by the first handsome guy, goes in and sleeps with him. She doesn’t tell him she has a husband and child. Then she just tells the guy that it was a great night, but there’s nothing special between them and if she sees him again, she won’t even say hello.

With that, her best friend is murdered. The investigation reveals that the latter was having a very intimate sexual relationship with her sister… with whom she does not get along. The judge’s sister, that is! The only thing missing is a story of incest. Because as you will have understood, this film is quite twisted. Besides, the most twisted people manage to get out of it. Which makes it a film that praises deception, voyeurism, lies, betrayal and so on.

It’s a pity there wasn’t a subtle ending. There is simply an ending that is meant to be subtle.

It’s a shame, because the film is gripping. The dialogues are nice, no length, a good rhythm…

It’s just that we follow someone who is loathsome and soft… all the while hoping that she will finally get caught…

The big disappointment directly takes two stars off this film which is still good in some ways. It’s just sloppy and poorly finished. But… that’s what defines Netflix, after all!!!

You really have to be sellouts to make movies where women and magistrates have such power… and no real value.

My rating:

Rating: 3 out of 5.
