Introducing BiboZ’s new short story available on Amazon Kindle!

Synopsis: Two people went to school together. They were both well known in their schools, but not for the same reasons. She, because she was popular and very pretty, and he, because he was very sociable and made people laugh with his particular brand of humor. At the same time, the two had no interest in each other and didn’t really get along.

After several years, during which both experienced suffering in various forms, they became bitter adults. But as fate would have it, they met again in a café… and suddenly found interest in each other. But what if they were missing something?

Unexpected Reunion is an adaptation of BiboZ’s short story Retrouvaille Inattendues

Here’s an excerpt from Unexpected Reunion:

Josh opened his book again, put the bookmark on the table, found the passage he was reading. He re-read the last three or four sentences he had already read and continued reading. He was immediately caught up in the heat of the moment when suddenly the door of the café opened again and a beautiful blonde full of charm, in her forties, entered the café. Truth be told, you could totally see her natural beauty, because, unlike Kyla, she didn’t wear makeup and had just tied up her long wet hair. She must have just washed it and didn’t have to dry it.

She looked at Josh and walked over to him.

-Excuse me…

Josh looked up.

“Damn, that’s not true!” he said. ‘’Is it a set-up?’’

“No, it’s a conspiracy!” joked the blonde.

– In any case, it’s a dirty trick! he added. And the next one, she’s going to be a redhead in her fifties, sixties, right?

-Josh… (Her voice was very soft.) Don’t you recognize me?

Josh stared at her. He narrowed his eyes and it took him a few long seconds to exclaim:

-Lydia?

She smiled and her blue eyes sparkled.

“Can I sit with you?”

Josh turned around and glanced at Kyla who, obviously, was staring at them both in turn in great astonishment. Lydia raised an eyebrow without understanding what was going on.

“Please!” said Josh, without any conviction.

She sat down.

“But I must admit that I wanted to read a book!”

– Come on Josh! Is that how you greet an old friend from school?

Josh stared at her… frowned… Sighed… and finally said:

– Okay, listen! I don’t know what you want, but hurry up, that’s not all I have to do!

– What should you do?

-Read!

– What is your novel about?

“What do you want, Lydia?”

She hadn’t expected so much coldness. But it was understandable. They hadn’t seen each other for a long time and he could very well be in a bad mood, on a bad day or in a bad place. We all have our depressive or aggressive phases.

“Bad time?” she asked.

– Bad life! he growled.

The waitress came back to them and asked:

– What would make you happy!

A mint tea, please! Lydia commanded.

– And I’ll have another cappuccino, please. Josh added.

The waitress glanced at Kyla, then Lydia, and finally Josh.

“He’s a chick magnet!” she thought. She was dying to say it out loud to him, but she held back, of course.

“Thanks” replied Lydia.

“Are you going to leave me?” Josh cut in.

“No,” she continued, “I’ll let you spit your venom at me and then I’ve got some stuff to tell you.”

– Anything to tell me? he wondered. You talk like you know you’re going to see me again!

“But I knew I was going to see you again!”

“Did you see it in your crystal ball?”

“I didn’t need it!” she said, winking at him.

– What’s all this mystery?

Josh was more and more surprised. He ended up closing his book for good.

“How long has it been since we’ve seen each other, Lydia?”

– You don’t know! Personally, it hasn’t been that long.

Josh began to think about this sentence. What did it mean?

“What do you mean by that?” he asked. Why so much mystery? Did you see me, but I didn’t see you? In a store? A bar? On the street?

-No…

– A wedding? Burial?

-That was grim.

“You saw me and I didn’t, if I understood correctly.”
