Triangle of Sadness was directed by Ruben Östlund. It’s a dark comedy about passengers on a luxury cruise ship that is hit by a brutal storm, leaving them stranded and struggling on a remote island. The movie I told you about is… very strange! Quite disgusting! I almost said that this is a good movie. At the same time, it is impossible for me to say that it is totally bad, as the dialogues and situations are well made. We don’t see much of Woody Harrelson, but he is still mythical and incredible. He made me laugh, once again.

Part of the movie deals with the world of models and influencers. We learn two, three things. Here, nobody is spared. Everyone takes it in the face. There is no cliché of the bad bourgeois and the good poor.

The film is divided into three parts. I was originally going to write that the first hour is great… but alas, it lasts one and a half hours longer. And to think that originally it was almost 3h45!!!

Fortunately, there was the decency to cut this film already much too long. The only thing that doesn’t bother in the length, is that we have the impression to live these ordeals with the protagonists.

There is a lot of vomit and excrement in this feature film. It is probably the first time that there is so much in a film that wins the Palme d’Or. Let’s talk about Cannes Film Festival awardees! I am not convinced with many films that win the prestigious Palme d’Or award. Especially, their choice of Titane – a movie where a woman is impregnated by a car. I mean what were they thinking?

In short, it’s worth seeing once. The trashiest among you will just love the second part of the second sequence of the film. It’s obviously interesting that the film plays with hierarchies. Those who are at the bottom at the beginning… go up and are at the top of the pyramid by the end.

The film ends in a fishtail. The director is proud of this. He thinks it’s very subtle and clever. His take on things is relatively different from what people expect from a film… and it was certainly the surprise he was able to create that delighted the most frustrated.

The fact that the actress Charlbi Dean passed away just after the release of the film makes things difficult for its creators and actors… but (let’s face it!) will add an extra cult following to this film.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
