An American Haunting  (2006) is a horror film based on the true story of The Bell Witch of Tennessee. A film with a good rhythm and good directing, but not very understandable. There are many good scenes, but the lack of understanding makes it boring.

The actors are good though: Donald Sutherland, always impeccable, disturbing and interesting.

I really liked James D’Arcy here. Sissy Spacek is not an actress I know well, she hasn’t made an impression on me so far, although she does quite well here. Rachel Hurd-Wood is great, but she’s not the most transcendent actress possessed in a film either. She’s always nice to see, but not necessarily remembered, especially if she’s in bad movies like Perfume or Dorian Gray.

Courtney Solomon is a special director: he’s made some very different films, including Getaway (which made me like Selena Gomez) and apparently the first Dungeons & Dragons (which I’ve never seen!)

A film that is not necessary to see. The “based on real events” at the end further spoils what could have been a good movie. The ending itself is supposed to be subtle, but it adds an extra bitter touch. Basically, I had a lot of unnecessary good times here. I’d rather have a lot of good times, but with a good or very good film.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
