Blood Lands (2014) Incredible ! Another Home Invasion… but in the English style and set in Scotland this time!I have several things to say about this film. I have a special relationship with this film: it was shown on TV a few years ago and I didn’t get to see it in its entirety. It took me a while to find it again, and today I’ve watched the first half again and discovered the ending. Suffice to say, I have no regrets. And yet, it’s rare. When I have a lot of enthusiasm for a film, I’m usually disappointed. Plus, even though I’ve watched a ton of home invasion films, I hate most of them. Still, this one appealed to me. There’s a hyper-natural side to it that I really appreciated. The couple look so at ease, and it’s as if they’re being filmed without realizing it, so accurate is their acting. There’s always that uneasy, unhealthy feeling with little hope. And yet it’s not all doom and gloom, because the ending is very special. As with Hostel and Czechia, this film is a good break for Scottish tourism. And the message is clear: Dear English, don’t come to us. Stay at home! Pollyanna Mcintosh is an actress I adore. Yet most of her films suck. Here, with Exam, it remains one of her best roles. The two main characters are quite insufferable, each in turn. But in the end, we understand that they like to tease each other, but that their love and complicity is indestructible. And that’s beautiful ! Much of the film is in real time. There are no time jumps, no leaps into the past, no ellipses into the future. You really get the impression that you’re living the drama at the same time as the protagonists. It’s a pretty powerful thing to be able to do. It’s quite surprising to see Pollyanna scared for most of the film, when she’s usually the one who’s scary! I’m glad I saw the whole film.I liked the ending. Quite a pleasant surprise. Thanks a lot !
