Darlin’ (2019) Sometimes, it’s infuriating to discover really bad films. But other times, it’s pretty hilarious. Such is the case with this Darlin’!Indeed, it’s an ultra-bad film, but it does have its positive points, in the heap. The actors do well. Some of the dialogue is very enjoyable. There are some great characters, like the girls at St. Philomena’s Catholic boarding school for girls, and the caring nurse who takes the main girl under his wing. There are some genuinely funny moments. Some are intentional, others much less so. It’s great to laugh when the director intended us to laugh. It’s a little more dramatic when you burst out laughing, even though it wasn’t intended to be.There’s a nice dance scene, and also a post-generic scene in the same style, which really pleases.Darlin’ is the latest in a trilogy, the first of which I have no desire to see. The previous one was detestable, and this sequel is slightly better. But it’s still a series of inconsistencies and totally irrational reactions on the part of the protagonists. The pace is not good. Between what’s happening and the reaction time, there’s a clear problem of direction. Pollyanna Mcintosh, who is an excellent actress who plays in a lot of very bad films, should also reconsider her direction. I don’t know if this is her first directorial effort, but it’s clearly a failure, even if the idea was there. But I trust her! She deserves to be known for more than just her character in Walking Dead. Exam is probably her best film to date. Special mention: the film’s music is particularly good.In particular, there’s Control by the yellow-haired singer Dorian Electra (with guests Zuri Marley, Chynna, K Rizz & London Jade). There’s also Summer Camp’s excellent Fresh. It seems to me that sometimes the worst movies have the best songs.
