HotWax – A Thousand Times (2023) I’ve got nothing to say here. Apart from… something like… well… OK !I’ll just say two things : 1) the first track is called “Treasure” and that’s what I think of this band. A real treasure! 2) the fourth track is called “A Thousand Times” and that’s the number of times I could listen to this EP. Blonde Redhead – Sit Down For Dinner (2023) Musical culture is not complete without knowing this band. And even then, I’m only talking about their latest album, released this year. I’d heard great things about them, but I didn’t really believe the rumors. I put off listening to one of their albums several times. And now I realize what I’ve been missing all this time. Holliday Howe – God in Maine (2023) Pop? Hyper-pop even? Emo? Even Midwestern emo? Glitch pop? Voice tampering over electro??? What a horror !!!!!!!!! And yet… there are inexplicable things going on in my head, especially when it’s connected to my heart.There are musical genres I love, but bands I hate in the bunch.Here, it’s exactly the opposite: it’s a genre I hate… but I think Holliday Howe can be counted among my current favorite singers. Protomartyr – Under Color Of Official Right (2014) For me, it’s a no-brainer: This band has become legendary in less than two albums. They prove that it’s not just female bands that have taken over. I’ve got nothing against them, quite the contrary, but I had the distinct impression that men were disappearing from the scene. And that’s it! I could put a period to it, but I’ll just add two things: 1) this band, with its excellent sound and great lyrics, is one of those who do the best of what they do! Basically, the best of today’s Punk, Indie Rock, Alternative Rock, and they manage to create, to invent. They don’t go round in circles, and they’re constantly renewing the genre. For those who don’t like rock, obviously, this won’t please them. But do we really care? MADDEE – Red Mind (2019) A graceful, classy, soaring EP that quickly takes you into another world. Something to calm the nerves! I’ve seen it filed under RnB, Funk and Soul… but it’s still Pop and Indie. An Indie Pop gem, by excellence. It’s not the kind of music I’d listen to in the morning to motivate myself, or to work out. On the other hand, it’s ideal for relaxing, dreaming, meditating and dozing off. A great female singer who has a great band with a very nice project ! https://maddeemusic.bandcamp.com/album/red-mind
