The Black Demon (2023) There are shark films that are great or excellent (Jaws, Open Water, Great White and especially 47 Meters Down and Survival Instinct (The Shallows)) and others that really suck: Sharknado, Sharkenstein, Sharkula, Shark Avalanche and Shark Land. But there are also films that fall somewhere in between, like The Shark and this one. The Black Demon is overdone, but it tries its best. As soon as you see the shark, you’re afraid you’re in for a Sharknado, because the effects aren’t very believable. But after that, it’s done a bit better. The story isn’t terribly exciting, but the dialogue is good. Everyone plays well: the son plays well, his sister is incredible, the mother is very fair and the father…Wait a second! I have my doubts about the father! I’m not convinced that Josh Lucas plays very well here. But his role is very important for a lot of reasons. This actor hasn’t been in any very good films, or any very well-known films, apart from American Psycho. He’s a sort of cross between Patrick Wilson and Thomas Jane. An average piece of entertainment that will disappoint those looking for a real nerd flick, but also those looking for really big thrills and lots of suspense. It will please those who want to see a family story taken hostage by a gigantic megalodon.
