The Strangers (2008) Well, well..I seem to be seeing a lot of stars for this film. So I’m going to correct that and put as few as possible! T he beginning is pretty lame. For the first 10 minutes, you’re wondering where you’re going, where it’s coming from, will we get an explanation or not? Then, yes, I admit, there’s unbearable suspense. But once it’s gone, there’s nothing left to save. What’s the point of all this? What’s there to get out of this film? It’s on a par with Motel, which I thought was much better. Based on true stories? Is it really? Of course there are atrocious things happening in the world every day. But making films like this isn’t going to make humanity any better. It’s great to see Liv Tyler, but she chooses her films rather badly. The lead actor is bland. I thought maybe he was going to be in it. But given that he isn’t, he simply plays badly. Or at least he won’t go down in the annals of cinema. Not thanks to this role, anyway. And I was looking forward to seeing Gemma Ward’s acting talents. Well, it’s a dud! We only see her from the back or with a mask throughout the film. The two or three sentences she gets to utter are just pathetic. If the film was any good, it would at least have brought a smile to my face. But here…No, no, as far as I’m concerned there’s nothing to salvage! It’s a film for those who like extreme gratuitous violence that happens for no reason, who don’t like subtle or interesting discussions or dialogue. It’s also a film for those who have lost all emotion and heart. And afterwards, we’re surprised that there are more and more violent dramas in our society, when we do everything we can to encourage it! PS : But I’d like to take this opportunity to say that the camera moves all the time too, and it’s not stable. Very unpleasant! Funny Games was much better than this crap.
