Batman Beyond: Return Of The Joker! (2000) I can’t believe it!I’m really late. I’ve just discovered this animated film, even though it came out in 2000! I’d heard of “Batman Beyond”, but I didn’t know that:1) they actually have a whole series! With two seasons to boot!2) it was set 40 years after the Batman adventures we know today.3) I also didn’t know that Dean Stockwell, who voices the old Robin, died two years ago, in 2021.It’s worth noting that the voice doubles also include Rachael Leigh Cook & Melissa Joan Hart! And of course, there’s the one and only Mark Hamill, irreplaceable as the voice of the Joker! So… they’ve all aged here. Harley Quinn is a grandmother, Robin has stepped out of his superhero role to become a husband and father. Bruce Wayne has trained a Terry McGinnis who has become the new Batman, with lots of new resources and new technologies. In a way, he became Terry’s new Alfred. On the other hand, the Joker, who was supposed to be dead, reappears… and as young as ever. And he’s at the head of a new group of villains. So the action is perfect, the characters are a pleasure to see and discover. I really liked the mix between the old Batman and this new one. There are flashbacks to the past. The music, which is rather metal, goes very well with this animated film. On the other hand, I’m not convinced about how the Joker’s return was set up and conceived. The more scientific will say it’s just not possible. And those who aren’t scientific at all just won’t understand it. And it just doesn’t make sense! But it’s still a good time, excellent entertainment.
