Cursed (2005) is a young adult werewolf film directed by Wes Craven. I didn’t know anything about this film. As soon as it started, I said several things to myself. As soon as I saw Christina Ricci’s name, I thought “Damn! Especially because she’s been in a lot of bad films. But she’s brilliant here. An excellent role for this fine actress. When I saw Jesse Eisenberg, I thought, blimey, this guy is super annoying most of the time, even unbearable. But here, just like in Zombieland, I really liked him. When I saw Judy Greer, I thought “cool”, but she plays one of the most detestable people in the film. That said, she plays it to perfection. She’s in a scene where a werewolf gives the finger after being insulted… and that scene is priceless! I like Joshua Jackson. But he’s one of those people who wants to make a break with their first series roles. Indeed, he was rather adorable as Pacey Witter in the series Dawson“s Creek. But since then, he’s been collecting roles as rather annoying characters, like in The Skulls (2000). At the same time, I’m by no means an expert on this Canadian actor, as I haven’t actually seen half his work. His series The Affair looks quite interesting. Shannon Elizabeth annoys me to no end, in general. However, she gave me a good laugh in the first really bad Scary Movie. And we don’t see much of her here. Enough to recognise her style, which, in this film, comes across rather well, I have to admit. When I saw that the film was directed by Wes Craven, I was thrilled. But it’s a far cry from his Red Eye and the first Scream. This film is just a big delirium, totally unrealistic and irrational. It passes the time, but… alas, it drags on and on towards the end.And there are some really ridiculous things in this film. That’s for sure! A fun popcorn moment, but nothing more.
