Hunted is a thriller directed by French director and comedian Vincent Paronnaud (a.k.a. Winshluss) about a kidnapped woman. Europeans are quick to criticise American films all the time, but if they had made this film, chances are it would have been better!
I regret not being able to give this film two stars, despite all the good moments. Because, in the end, all those good moments are quickly forgotten. A short film that seems ultra long. Forty minutes that are passable, even interesting… but followed by forty minutes of brutality, violence, vulgarity and incoherence.
And the cliché of the girl who pretends she wants to be alone and is approached by a guy in the bar, she goes with him, gets kidnapped by him and another psycho, then escapes them and they chase her into a forest. The tag line in this film is “The company of wolves is better than man.” Not very original.
No, really: Vincent Paronnaud is not going to be a director I will follow assiduously. He’s not likely to become one of my favourites. I will still watch his Persepolis knowing that the comic book will be better anyway!
