No Vacation – Phasing (2019) A band that hails from San Francisco, California. A band that has been around since 2015 and is also criminally underrated or unknown. Yet it achieves perfection in so many tracks.
I send a huge salute to this crew just for these magnificent songs Yam Yam, Reaper and Mind Fields. A band that, for me, is already among the elite, with songs and subjects that correspond to what we feel deep down inside.
Thanks to all the band members. The song “Changes” and “Days” have nothing in common with the songs of David Bowie or the Drums, apart from the titles. But these songs are every bit as majestic as a song by the great master Bowie or one by the champions of Indie (Rock & Pop).
One comment said, “Will always remind me of the summer of 2020, midlife was fun for me at least”.Which just goes to show the power of music. This EP has created a certain joy, even in difficult times. These songs make you feel like you’re floating alone in a lake. And when all that Indie Dreampop wears off after four songs, we’re treated to an instrumental piano finale. And “Last Dance” makes you want to dance the ballet so you can stand up and join in… if you haven’t already given it your all on the first four tracks. On the other EP, 2017’s “Intermission”, the “piano piece” is right in the middle. It’s the third track.
I’m not sure I’ll be reviewing “Intermission”, as I feel exactly the same way about these two EPs (and everything else this genius band has composed)! For me, they’re each a Must, essential to my collection, anyway. https://novacationgrrl.bandcamp.com/album/phasing
