Two Films Starring Johnny Depp (Reviews)

Secret window (2004) The story: A successful writer in the midst of a painful divorce is stalked at his remote lake house by a would-be scribe who accuses him of plagiarism. So, first of all, this is a story by Stephen King. It’s in his book Midnight 2 (Four Past Midnight) , in which there are two stories. The first, The Langoliers, is perfection. It’s the terrifying story of a plane that leaves Los Angeles one night and lands in an empty world. In “Secret Window, Secret Garden“, the author returns to one of his favorite themes: writers. And a strange uninhabited territory that exists between reality and “Once upon a time”. I love The Langoliers. I always have. Both the film and the book. “Secret Window, Secret Garden” is a good story, but less so! That said, the film did a good job. I’m a fan of Johnny Depp and I loved him in this film.I don’t adore Maria Bello, but I really liked her in this role. As for John Turturro, it’s always a pleasure to see him so charismatic. An intriguing story, well put together, well shot. Despite the bloody murders, the film remains bearable.It’s not for gore fans, fortunately. When I read the book, I never for a moment imagined Johnny Depp in this role.And yet, he managed to make this character quite funny and endearing. As with Jessie, known in English as “Gerald’s Game“, one of the few great Netflix successes, it was no easy task to bring what had been written to the screen. But the adaptation works perfectly. An interesting film for me. On the other hand, it must have disappointed and been as boring as it was interminable for fans of action, fighting, horror and unbearable/unbearable suspense. Too bad for them, but nevermind!

Transcendence (2014) The story: A scientist’s drive for artificial intelligence takes on dangerous implications when his own consciousness is uploaded into one such program. I enjoyed these two comments from other movie reviewers. There’s a lot of truth in them.1) “Good, but doesn’t last long enough to explain everything… too bad because the basic idea is very good.”2) “I really liked it… how you become a god… good or bad… Ours is bad…”Obviously, it’s great to see Morgan Freeman, Kate Mara and Cillian Murphy. As for Johnny Depp, it’s not in this film that we realize he’s a good actor. Rebecca Hall, on the other hand, is incredible. I’d give it 5 stars easily if it were just her performance I had to judge. So… yes, a very interesting and thought-provoking idea. A must-see!
