Reptile (2023) (On Netflix) It’s the big return of the film duo Benicio Del Toro & Alicia Silverstone! Although I’ve never seen Excess Baggage (1997). It’s not one of my film priorities, and I’ve never heard too many good things about it. No one told me it was an essential film in my collection. The great Justin Timberlake joins the couple and is an integral part of the film’s important trio. I’m not going to go on too long: seeing that this film lasts 2h 14min and that it’s Netflix, it’s easy to guess that there will be a fair amount of length in this film, even though it’s classified as a Thriller, Drama & Thriller. A film containing these elements shouldn’t even be boring for a minute. There are very long films that are incredible and that you could watch several times. “The Life of David Gayle” and “The Green Line” are easily among them. Benicio Del Toro is in a very good role as a hardened policeman (detective actually) desperate to find the truth. Alicia Silverstone is a pleasure to watch. In recent years, she has returned to the limelight. Not necessarily in very good films, but knowing that some of the stars of the 90s are still around is always heart-warming. She plays the policeman’s wife. As for Justin Timberlake, he is always impeccable. Here, he plays a mysterious man who seems too nice, too perfect. But we see him tired and weary. We wonder throughout whether he’s in on it or not. An investigation that could have been thrilling and interesting from start to finish. Unfortunately, Spoilers Alerts: I’ll admit that I love non-horrific Thriller Thrillers… but I don’t like drug stories. Maybe that’s radical enough. But for me, as soon as there’s a story about a cartel or a scheme, it loses its flavour. I prefer an investigation that leads to a ruthless, twisted, intelligent killer who’s hard to catch… and who’s played by an incredible actor who will be remembered! But here, none of that. A crime film to be seen once. But one that won’t necessarily delight a lot of people!
