The Mountain Between Us (2017)
Wow!
I’ve seen quite a few very different opinions on this film.
I can see that the girls really liked it (ah, the little romantics!) and the guys didn’t hate it, but….
It’s not easy to hang a feature film on two actors, a dog and nature (which can be considered the fourth actor). But personally, I really enjoyed it. I let myself be taken in and guided.
The accident is spectacular, Kate is incredible (as she very often is!), Idris Elba has a superb role here and nature is Magnifique! What’s more, I was delighted to see Beau Bridges back in a small role.
Well… there’s the Hollywood happy ending, but in the end it’s not so disturbing here. What’s more, it gives the film’s title its full meaning. The fact that the dog pulls through is, in a way, part of the happy ending. I’m talking in particular about the part where he escapes from a wild beast.
These last details mean that it’s not a masterpiece… but, on the other hand, when you think of all the bad films that have been released and are still being released, this one is well worth the detour and the look.
There’s another review I read that I really liked.
Here it is:
“Beautiful, gripping story
If you’re looking for spectacle and thrills, this is a 100% psychological film! 🙂
Through the destiny of two people separated by everything, we are offered a beautiful metaphor for tolerance, and I really don’t understand why this beautiful film has been so criticized.Kate Winslet and Idris Elba are truly brilliant and capture the evolution of their characters perfectly. Highly recommended!”
