Drive Angry (2011) is a story about a vengeful father who escapes from hell and pursues the men who killed his daughter and kidnapped his granddaughter. The real title of this film is Drive Angry! Why on earth would French speakers change the title to Hell Driver! ? I have my own idea, but it’s not politically correct. The title has become He’s got something to laugh about. And that, at least, is good. Because this is the moment when you really smile. This film really does suck. What a shame! There’s no doubt that Nicolas Cage is one of the best actors of our time (8 MM, Snake Eyes…) But he’s finally worn himself out with stupid primate films! Hence his announcement of retirement. This film is suspenseless, illogical and boring! The story is predictable. The stunts and action scenes are better done elsewhere. Even fans of muscle-bound feature films won’t find what they’re looking for.A bad film, of course, but I’ll still give it two stars for Cage’s performance, for Amber Heard who is also an excellent actress, despite what people may say about her. I was also delighted to see William Fichtner in a role that suits him so well. As for David Morse, we don’t see much of him, but it was good to see him again. But his best role was undeniably in The Green Line. And he seems to be one of those actors who only played villains to make you forget that he was just as good there. As for Billy Burke, he’s the fifth actor I know, but I didn’t really know him. I’ve seen him here and there, but he’s never made an impression on me, I admit! Drive Angry/Hell Driver is macabre, unnecessarily brutal, having done nothing good with the story, which would have been perfectly feasible. You can’t help but think of Ghost Rider, Nic Cage in a B-movie with some pretty pathetic dialogue. For once, not even Cage manages to save the day, a case of sheer desperation.
