The Awakening (2011) Plot:In 1921, England is overwhelmed by the loss and grief of World War I. Hoax exposer Florence Cathcart visits a boarding school to explain sightings of a child ghost. Everything she believes unravels as the ‘missing’ begin to show themselves.
Beautiful scenery, very good dialogue, actors at the top and just the right amount of jump scares….For an hour, I told myself that this film is excellent. But in the end, it started to get long and I’m not convinced of the ending. It’s surprising, but a little too complex for me. A scientific ghost story set against a post-World War II backdrop. It’s very well thought-out… but I sometimes find it hard to think. Rebecca Hall… always exceptional, by the way.
