Drive (2011) A mysterious Hollywood action film stuntman gets in trouble with gangsters when he tries to help his neighbor’s husband rob a pawn shop while serving as his getaway driver.
I gave this film two chances. And frankly… I don’t like it! It’s official. That the film tries to have a 60’s style… it is, in my opinion, a total dud. I’ve never been as bored watching a ’60s movie as this one. The film is called Sang-froid in Quebec, and I understand: you have to have a lot of it to put up with this long, slow, far too brutal film, which really didn’t do anything for me. Except a lot of wasted time. A double waste of time, in fact. Ryan Gosling, we know, is a good actor. But this isn’t the place to realize it!
Carey Mulligan has the presence of an oyster. She’s a real spitfire in this role. Ron Perlman is an excellent actor with extraordinary charisma, which, alas, is often a sign of a bad film. If he’s around, there’s a good chance the film will be bad. As for Christina Hendricks, she’s there just because she’s so beautiful. It’s not in this film that we find out whether she’s a good actress or not. If the film is good just for the music, then just buy a record or go to a concert. But music has never saved a film, either in my eyes or in my ears. When I see the enthusiasm of critics and spectators, I can see that I come from another dimension, from another galaxy. I feel like saying that it’s like when a film wins the Cannes Film Festival: you know it’s going to be bad!
