Stay Alive (2006) Synopsis: For a group of teens, the answer to the mysterious death of their old friend lies within the world of an online video game based on the true story of an ancient noblewoman known as the Blood Countess.
Stay Alive is an American film directed by William Brent Bell. The film was produced by Joseph McGinty Nichol and released in March 2006 in the United States. It was the first film released by Hollywood Pictures after five years of inactivity, after all! It was also Disney’s only slasher film (not counting those made by Dimension Films before 2005, or those inherited from the 20th Century Fox catalogue).Everything was there for me not to like this film. A teen movie, horror and video games. But, surprisingly, I enjoyed it immensely. Everything was well put together. The characters aren’t the eternal party boys, who all take drugs, drink, party and become so annoying that you want to see them killed! Obviously, there’s a disruptive element in the group, but we see its good side too, which makes it endearing in spite of everything. A film where people play video games and die exactly as they died in the game. Cool idea! Game Over… If you like video games and horror films, you should like what’s on offer here. A dark atmosphere, a good story, a bit of thrills and suspense… not your typical teen movie. A really cool film, you might say! As for the actors, I only knew Sophia Bush, whom I adored in 2007’s The Hitcher. Here she has a role that suits her perfectly too. Here’s a negative review I found: “Unimaginative and boring. Nice for 10 year olds. Otherwise: complete rubbish. “It’s the exact opposite of everything I think. And here’s a positive: “Very good! For gamers, it’s a really great film. I really liked it. “There’s also the “this film is sooooo amazing! It’s one of my favourite films. I found the story very original and the cast are excellent! A must-see!” I’m going to show a mixed review though: “The story isn’t that bad, but the film doesn’t manage to create any really gripping suspense. The special effects also leave something to be desired at times. Not bad though.” There you go! In any case… Respect!
