Synopsis: An accidental hit and run jeopardizes the friendship between a journalist and his quirky neighbor. “Unter Nachbarn” is the original German version of The Good Neighbor starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Eleven years before its remake “The Good Neighbor”, there was this original. I loved the remake, but I have to admit that the first one isn’t so bad and is already very good. It’s the presence of Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the remake that really tips the scales for me. I love this story, I love its twists and turns. It’s a very interesting storyline that makes us ask a lot of questions about loyalty, friendship and people’s invasiveness or intrusiveness. The remake is more detailed and precise. The first is more suggestive, faster-paced, with fewer frills. In any case, I enjoyed making the comparisons and listing the differences. In any case, there will be everyone: those who prefer the first, those who will prefer the remake, those who will love both and those who will hate both. In short! It reminds me of the times when I enjoy watching a film after reading the book, or when I watch all the versions of a film. I’ve done it with the Hitchers, although I haven’t seen 1953’s The Hitch-Hiker. I’ve done it with both “Crime on the Orient Express” films. And it’s a pretty cool thing to do for big cinephiles.
