Muse (2019) A film not to be confused with “Muse”, which is a Spanish psychological horror film (also from 2019!) written, directed and produced by Candida Brady and starring Rupert Everett, That said, this one is just as bad as that Spanish film “Muse” from 2017.Here we go again!Another film with the team of Richard John Taylor (whose real name is Meredith Alfred Lytton, by the way) where he had previously reunited Lowri Watts-Joyce & Jeffrey Charles Richards. “The Huntress of Auschwitz” and “The Haunting Of Pendle Hill”, both from 2022. Crazy! This film is even worse than the other two. It’s dated three years earlier.I’m going to go back in time again and see one last film by this director. What you don’t need to do to be a professional film critic! This time, Jeffrey is the lead actor, not Lowri Watts-Joyce. In fact, if you’re watching this film for the latter, forget it: we don’t see her for more than ten minutes! In The Huntress of Auschwitz, we fell for her within the first few minutes. But here, the director wants to put us under Kitty Lucas’s spell… and also make us fall for Emily Price for a few (introductory) seconds… just before something bad happens to her. Well… at the same time, if we don’t fall for blondes, it’s a bit of a grate!!!Jokes apart, the story is both poetic and dramatic. A man has already lost his wife, but has also lost his daughter. Naturally, he sinks into depression, then madness. But unfortunately, it’s poorly directed and delivered. The acting is so bad it’s laughable at times, as in all the films of the moderately young Richard John Taylor. I’d describe his films as “films for learning English”, because they’re so long and slow, even in their theatrical way of speaking. That said, he manages to regularly reunite British actors often known from the soap opera Eastenders. Muse has some very good, quite touching ideas, but it doesn’t escape the label of turnip and soporific failed film.
