The Kinks – Kinks (réédition courte paru 29 janvier 2016 sur les plateformes musicales)J’ai écouté cet album sur Soundcloud. Il n’y a que dix titre de l’album original. Comme si on avait fait un raccourci pour ceux qui veulent à tout prix découvrir rapidement ce groupe mythique pour leur culture. Que découvre-t-on ? Que ça commence par Cadillac, morceau incroyablement énergique, totalement Rockabilly avec de l’harmonica,Long Tall Shorty, titre assez marrant, comporte aussi de l’harmonica et la façon de chanter annonce déjà que le Rock va se muer en Punk tôt ou tard.

Pas étonnant que tant de groupe comme les Clash ou les Stranglers considèrent les Kinks comme une influence majeure,Beautiful Delilah, un pur joyaux de Rock’n’Roll créé par le grand Chuck Berry (papa du Rock’n’Roll) qui rejoint aisément le Twist & Shout des BeatlesStop Your Sobbing : j’ai découvert que… NON, ce n’est pas un morceau des Pretenders !

Incroyable !!! Just Can’t Go To Sleep, le genre de morceau qui rappellent que les 60’s étaient vraiment magiques !Bald Headed Woman : rappelle que tous les membres du groupe chante, sauf le batteur, Mick, qui, par contre, rajoute du tambourine et des maracas. Il y a au moins sept musiciens supplémentaires qui apportent leurs pattes, notamment avec d’autre guitare, de l’orgue ou du piano. So Mystifying : alliage Blues Rock magnifiqueToo Much Monkey Business : encore du Rockabilly au sommet de sa forme !I’ve Been Driving On Bald Mountain : Morceau un peu plus calme, mais pas moins énergique qui ne dure même pas une minute ! You Really Got Me : le troisième tube du groupe qui est aussi leur plus grand succès.

Voilà ! 10 morceaux, 23 minutes et 18 secondes, c’est beaucoup trop court. Procurez-vous l’album complet, remastérisé si vous préféré. Mais l’album écourté, c’est bon si vous n’avez que dix minutes à l’aller pour le travail, environ dix minutes au retour. Ou alors pour continuer à essayer de convaincre votre grand-mère inculte que… Non, il n’y avait pas qu les Beatles et les Rolling Stones à son époque !

No wonder so many bands like the Clash and the Stranglers consider the Kinks a major influence,Beautiful Delilah, a pure Rock’n’Roll gem created by the great Chuck Berry (daddy of Rock’n’Roll) that easily joins the Beatles’ Twist & Shout.Stop Your Sobbing: I discovered that… NO, this is not a Pretenders song! Unbelievable!!! Just Can’t Go To Sleep, the kind of song that reminds us that the 60s were truly magical!Bald Headed Woman: reminds us that all the members of the band sing, except drummer Mick, who adds tambourine and maracas. There are at least seven additional musicians who bring their own special touch, notably with other guitars, organ or piano. So Mystifying: magnificent Blues Rock alloyToo Much Monkey Business: Rockabilly at its best again!I’ve Been Driving On Bald Mountain: A slightly quieter, but no less energetic track that doesn’t even last a minute! You Really Got Me: the band’s third hit, and their biggest. And that’s it! 10 tracks, 23 minutes and 18 seconds, that’s far too short. Get the full album, remastered if you prefer. But the shortened album is fine if you’ve only got ten minutes on the way to work, and about ten minutes on the way back. Or if you want to keep trying to convince your uneducated grandmother that… No, it wasn’t just the Beatles and the Rolling Stones in her day!
