Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024) Fifth film in the franchise, but officially the fourth film in connection with the “real” first Ghostbusters.

The first two were created by Toronto director and producer Ivan Reitman and written by Dan Aykroyd and the late Harold Ramis.

The third by his film, Jason Reitman. But the screenplay was created by Jason and Gil Kenan, who directed this latest opus.

Some have said and thought that the previous film was an insult to the first. As far as I’m concerned, once again, I really liked it. I’m easily fooled when they play on my nostalgia, even if I realize, after the fact of course, that I’ve been fooled.

What’s ridiculous or unconvincing in these last two films are the big villains. One comes back and another lacks that little something that would make an excellent villain.

No Sigourney Weaver or Rick Moranis here, but otherwise, we’re back to the full team. I’m so glad Paul Rudd is part of the new team. I really appreciate this comedic actor, who has made Ant-Man even more endearing. One actress who really stands out is young Mckenna Grace. She is the daughter of Ross Burge and Crystal Grace. They encouraged her and enrolled her early on in drama school, where she drew rave reviews from her teachers. Just goes to show… it was worth it!

Her talent shines through in her role as the granddaughter of the late Egon Spengler. And despite her young age, she’s already done her bit. She has starred alongside Margot Robbie in Amityville: The Awakening, an appearance in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One, appeared in Captain Marvel as young Carol Danvers opposite adult Brie Larson.

Since she also sings, in 2020 Mckenna Grace signs with Photo Finish Records. In November 2021, she released her first single, Haunted House. Jason Reitman, who is directing the film Ghostbusters: The Legacy, hears the track, and asks to add it to the film’s theme music.

I could go on and on, but let’s move on to director Gil Kenan, born October 16, 1976 in London, British-American-Israeli screenwriter and director. At first, I was afraid of him, given that he had made Monster House, which I didn’t really like. I haven’t yet seen his remake of Poltergeist, but I can see that Scream also has its own series! Scream: The TV Series! Amazing! Apparently, Gil directed an episode of this series, which was basically a series. But, from what I’ve read, due to declining ratings and poor reviews, the series has become an anthology. Just like Creepshow or Twilight Zone, I suppose.

That’s it!Yes, I had a good time with this movie. Someone told me that only Ghostbusters 1 is good. The second is already a copy with the same gags. Everyone has their own opinion and tastes. I don’t regret going back to the cinema after all these years to see this sequel.

My Rating
