The Guest (2014) Another movie that warns folks to be careful who you let in!

I’m not a big fan of this director Adam Wingard. He made 2016’s Blair Witch which is just okay. He made the Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), which was terrible. He made the neither too good, nor too bad You’re Next (2011), which is another atypical thriller that surprises and, despite everything, gives enormous pleasure! Of course, the anti-hero here is pretty cool!

Terrifying, disturbing, but first and foremost helpful in an entertaining, twisted and exciting scenario. One of the many twists in the story spoiled the fun for me personally. The creators of “You’re next” have hit the nail on the head, but there are some things that sadden unnecessarily. There’s a fair amount of gratuitous nastiness. And the character who manages to stand up to an entire troop of elite military personnel ends up getting the shaft from an angry young woman. What’s more, a guy he helped turns against him… but ends up getting away with it in a totally unrealistic ending.

The rather cool Maika Monroe looks like a young Gwen Stefani in this film. Her performance isn’t as incredible as in The Stranger, but it’s still decent, if not transcendent. She always looks jaded, in fact. What a shame!
