Beowulf (2007) A Robert Zemeckis film.

Well…Maybe you should see it once! But it’s relatively rubbish. You can’t say that this film isn’t very good. In fact, it’s fair to say that this film is a real dud. Very few exciting scenes.

Someone wrote “This film is not to my taste. Sorry, I fell asleep three times.” I, for one, really expected better. The idea of an “animated film” with real actors isn’t bad, but it takes some getting used to. The story isn’t uninteresting, but it’s extremely simple. I have the impression that this film was a kind of “test version” for future films. What also surprises me a little is that this film was rated 12. It shows people torn apart, legs torn off, heads torn off, etc.!!!!! And, for example, “The Mechanic”, in which at most a little blood is spurted out, is rated 18 and under! How crazy! What a time!!!

I found these three reviewer’s opinions that amply complete mine:

1) “Crap The animations are so sterile and artificial that they completely spoil an already mediocre film. Bava and Corman could have done better with a low budget and no animation.”

2) “Bad pick Unfortunately, this film was one of my biggest misses (even though I bought it at the special price). The idea of an animated film is great. But what was done with it was a minor catastrophe. The monster could have been in any Disney movie and wouldn’t have shocked a five-year-old. I was astonished at first, then fell asleep. If someone likes this kind of movie, they can do it, if not… they can leave their wallet warm in their pocket.”

3) “Horrible! I really put up with this crap until the end, it was great fun to watch such bad entertainment! I laughed out loud and slept, both of which were quite enjoyable. Nevertheless, I would have enjoyed more a documentary about paint drying. I still don’t know if the filmmakers aren’t making fun of us idiots. If that’s the case, I totally support this film! The biggest crap of all time. Only downside: Angelina Jolie looks super sexy, even animated :-)”

The director? Robert Zemeckis! He missed the mark. It’s a far cry from his masterpieces : Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988), Forrest Gump (1994), What Lies Beneath / Cast Away (2000) or one of the best trilogies of all time, Back to the Future 1 to 3 (1986 – 1990). We’re close to his failed films like Death Becomes Her (1992). And it’s undoubtedly one of the worst films ever made by such a fine cast of actors as John Malkovich, Anthony Hopkins, Angelina Jolie, Ray Winstone and Crispin Glover. What a shame!

My Rating

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.
