Fatal Affair (2020) Not to be confused with “The Stalker – Fatal affair” film by Peter Sullivan who was an actor, unless I’m mistaken, in the film Golem – The London Killer (2016).

When I saw Breaking In (2018), I had written in my review “I don’t know why thrillers I’ve seen with African-Americans are so good.” Then I saw the ridiculous Mea Culpa (2024). and realised there could be flaws! This film is good, but it’s no match for The Perfect Guy (2015), Obsessed (2009), No Good Deed (2014) or When The Bough Breaks (2016). It’s a little more predictable, especially if you’re used to this kind of film. If you’re new to thrillers with this film, then, in that case, it’s a very good start.

The actors are decent, but it seems to me that for once it’s the supporting roles that play better than the two main protagonists, Nia Long as Ellie Warren and Omar Epps. In fact, I liked husband Stephen Bishop and young Aubrey Cleland, who plays their daughter, better. But a special mention goes to Maya Stojan, the star from Geneva who wanted to shine in Hollywood… and who is well on her way! This Swiss actress, based in the United States, is known for her recurring roles in series such as Castle and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It’s rare that Swiss people manage to do what she has done, and I think she’s done really well. What’s more, she speaks English and French to an advanced level, plays golf and directs yoga and transcendental meditation.

In short! Nice film to see once. There’s no extreme violence, there aren’t sex scenes every seven minutes, the story is decent. But there’s no breathtaking suspense or extraordinary plot twist. What’s more, the first supper, which is supposed to remain a mystery, is understood fairly quickly.
