Hot Hot Heat – Make Up The Breakdown (2002) WOOOW!How time flies! I discovered this band with the “Future Breeds” album. I loved that album. But when I read the reviews, I see that a lot of fans were disappointed by this record… but it was still out of stock. So I don’t really know what to think. I’ll have to listen to it again and write my review.

In any case, this ‘Make Up The Breakdown’ is excellent and is also out of stock. And ‘Elevator’ is also out of stock, both on CD and vinyl. Just goes to show! It seems to me that this band was quite popular, whatever they were doing. It’s an energetic, happy album, very nice. It’s got everything I’ve come to expect from indie rock, more or less. It’s definitely more harmonious than dissonant. Which isn’t a bad thing, even if dissonance is one of the things I like most, I must admit ;-D Great melodies and guitar, bass and drum rhythms. With a singer who’s made for it. Hey! You can hear some piano on the tenth track “In Cairo”. The title is reminiscent of “Fire in Cairo” by the Cure. Funnily enough, after thinking that, I actually felt a huge resemblance between these two bands. Clearly in this song, anyway.

The great tragedy is that Hot Hot Heat is a band that no longer exists. They played and were active from 1999 to 2016, much to the regret of those who never got to see them live. They were one of the best bands to come out of Canada. They were pros of Alternative Rock, Art Punk, Dance Punk and, of course, Indie Rock. They knew how to bring back and maintain New Wave and they were also part of those who revived Post-Punk (post-punk revival). I’d like to wish them a long life… but all I can do is thank them.
