The Quiet (2005) Another failed film with Elisha Cuthbert. Too bad, because I think she’s pretty great… but her choice of films leaves something to be desired. As for Camilla Belle, I know I didn’t like 10’000 (2008), didn’t like Push (2009), but loved the remake of When a Stranger calls (2006). Otherwise, I don’t think I’ve seen her other films. This actress is rather likeable, but not really transcendent. It seems to me that Elisha and Camilla have a habit of making bad films. It’s a real shame. Here, we have a relatively unhealthy film about a father who abandons his wife… for his own daughter who is in her late teens.
The color is already announced! We also see another deaf and dumb teenager who has been taken in by this twisted family and who seems to have a heavy secret to carry. The whole thing falls flat. I find The Quiet boring and long-winded! Despite the good actresses who do their job well, the film doesn’t really add anything and has no real interest! Granted, as in 90% of films, exaggerated story elements are used. Of course, this kind of thing can happen, but they’re isolated cases (how many inhabitants of Earth are there already…?). I also find the way the story unfolds very simplistic. Exaggerated, quite simply.
The scriptwriter must have been put in detention. That said, some people loved it! Here’s a comment from someone else who hated it: “Very, very stupid! The various elements of this dramatic thriller about a dysfunctional family may have potential. But the film’s story is so stupid, so horribly staged and so brutally badly acted that it only manages to elicit the occasional bit of unintentional comedy.” And here’s a fan’s comment in response: “Excellent! The film is not ‘silly’ at all (how can anyone put that word in relation to this film… mmh?). It’s an intelligent dramatic thriller! The actors do their job more than well – you immediately believe in their lives in this small town! The film deserves an EXCELLENT mention! ”That’s it! This comment is not at all what I think. I didn’t believe it even for a minute.
