Carrie (1976) What can I say? Firstly, I had read the book… and, obviously, it’s better!
You can’t talk about the interrogations at the end in an hour and a half, not to mention the mega preparation for the humiliation at the end.
Secondly, this film is typical of the 70s. But it still plays well, although there are clearly some overlaps. John Travolta is used to the role of a hateful guy, definitely! It’s surprising that he’s one of the most famous in the film today. It seems to me that he is better known than Nancy Allen, who is also in the film.
Funny to see Priscilla Pointer, who for me is mostly a series actress. But she has quite a career! And she’s 98 years old now. And that her daughter Amy Irving (69 today), who was married to Steven Spielberg between 1985 and 1989, also plays her own daughter in the film. Apparently she reprised her role for the second one, unlike Sissy Spacek, who was excellent in this role. I know she was nominated, but I don’t think she won an Oscar for this role. But it would have been well deserved!
Right! I think I’ll see Carrie 2 one day, although I don’t particularly want to see it. This sequel was certainly not written by the great Stephen King. I wonder if he prefers this film or the more recent one with Chloë Grace Moretz. I need to see the latter again, I didn’t watch it properly.
Anyway, the trio of Stephen King, Brian de Palma and Sissy Spacek clearly creates an absolute classic. A kind of untouchable film. A kind of film that you may not like, but you can only respect.
