Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022) is a Gen Z horror/comedy directed by Dutch filmmaker Halina Reijn . Starring Maria Bakalova from the second Borat movie and Pete Davidson from Saturday Night Live. I’d heard bad things about this film from one or two people… but I get the impression we weren’t watching the same movie. Well… let’s face it: if you don’t like Gen Z, teenagers, horror movies… this is definitely not going to be your cup of tea.
I also think it’s easy to overlook the film’s comedic side, as it’s not the clear, sharp and precise humor of parodies. This film is not a Hot Shots or a Scary Movie. On the other hand, the over-exaggerations, the dialogues, the arguments around laughable subjects clearly made me laugh out loud.
I’d love to analyze the film and talk about everything that made me laugh, but that would be spoilerish. The film manages to poke fun at horror films while adding a highly original touch that has never been seen before. You really need to be full of humor and open-minded to fully appreciate it.
The only thing I could have given it a fifth star was the short length. What’s more, the ending lasts a little too long. It’s as if the director was having trouble finding the right ending. Indeed, there’s a newcomer at the end who asks a question… and that’s where the film should have ended. It may only be thirty seconds longer, but it’s thirty seconds too long. No torture scenes, no unbearable gore, a few languorous kisses, but no real sex scenes. And that’s fine by me!
