Malevolence (2004) Clearly a masochist in my spare time, I watched the second one first, hated it, but still wanted to see if this first instalment was any better. And it’s not really. One thing’s for sure: I’m not going to see the 3rd.
Stevan Mena made all three, just as Tom Six insisted on making his Human Centipede trilogy! But the result? Nobody expects anything from Tom any more and he seems to have disappeared. The same thing could happen to Stevan. After all, who knows or remembers his name, apart from his small community of fans? This director of very gory horror films is going to be another one of those guys I’m going to eliminate from my list of films to see. That said, he has made a comedy horror film: Brutal Massacre – A Comedy. See if it’s worth it. If he’s making fun of himself and his own films, I might have some respect for him after all.
When you watch a film like this, you get the impression that there really are psychopaths all over America. When a victim tries to escape her attacker, runs and rings the doorbell of a house that has a kidnapper in it… you think that some have more tragic lives than others! There are always so many illogical reactions in these films. Walking into a scary house and visiting everything as if it were normal. I don’t mind curiosity being powerful, but still! And can a mum really fall asleep on the floor when she hasn’t eaten in ages, hasn’t been to the toilet in hours and her daughter has disappeared while being chased by a criminal?
In short! Malevolence 1 & 2 only have a good first half-hour, which is completely wasted by the hour that follows. All in all, a big waste of time. A very unhealthy mix of bad Home Invasion and bad Slasher. For absolute fans of gory horror, it’s still a treat! Recommended only for them.

Malevolence 2 – Bereavement (2011) Within five minutes, I knew it was going to be horrible and take me by storm… but not necessarily in a good way. Maybe even go further and make me nauseous. After 8 minutes, the first gory scenes are already visible. A feature film in which every glimmer of hope is quickly extinguished. That’s the principle. Very uninteresting story. Horror for horror’s sake! Gore films almost never have an interesting plot. I wonder if the first part is any good? I have strong doubts about it.
Even if Alexandra Daddario is excellent, I haven’t seen her in a good movie yet. But I believe in it! I trust her. Here, she doesn’t manage to save the film, in any case. No matter how much we watch it in its original version, it’s still an ultra-bad movie.
And even an incredible ending couldn’t raise the bar. Oh yes, by the way, the ending is the opposite, in fact: completely lame, too. No moral, lots of cruelty and absolutely no important message. Even the film’s title is ill-chosen. Basically, no interest at all. If… the music of the end credits, maybe.
Although I cut it out and didn’t even listen to the whole thing. I cordially detested this film, which is just a succession of totally gratuitous violence just made to shock and still push the limits further. How Great !!!
