Tom Holland’s Twisted Tales (2014) Another horror anthology. The first story is pretty cool. Don’t confuse this director, Tom Holland, with the actor who goes by the same names. No, this Tom Holland is the man who directed the first excellent Fright Night (1985) and not the third official actor to have played Spider-Man since the early 2000s.

In this film, you’ll find, in no particular order, werewolves, the end of the world, mine clearance, vampires, but also an encounter with the devil and one of his acolytes, a mirror that takes you into another dimension. There’s also a man who is stalked by his dead wife, and a guy who steals something from a corpse and puts a curse on it.

Famous actors include William Forsythia, but also Sarah Butler, both in rather loathsome roles. Another horror anthology that’s far better than Chilling Visions – 5 Senses of Fear (2013), Little Deaths (2011) and better than both ABCs of Death 1 (2012 and 2014). On the other hand, it’s hard to say whether it’s as good as Southbound (2015).

The fact is, this film is over two hours long. There are ridiculous, pointless moments that drag on and on. If only the best segments were taken and made into another, shorter film, it could be one of the best anthologies like the two Creepshows (1982 & 1987). As you can see, there’s something for everyone in this film. Some very good, some very bad, some in-between.

Each time, Tom Holland presents the next story, as Ray Bradbury & Roald Dahl did before, with a hint of deadpan wry humor. In any case, Tom is a far cry from his 1985 vampire masterpiece. Recommended for anthology and horror fans loyal to the 80s.Fans of gore and ultra-violence, you’ll have to pass!
