Weekend Away (2022) A Netflix thriller based on the novel of the same name by Sarah Alderson.

Amazing! In general, I don’t like Netflix productions. But… Yes, I loved this movie! I’ve read all the negative reviews, which even go so far as to say “Right from the start, you can see from the grainy image (cheap TV movie style) that the budget was very limited.” This is a comment from someone who doesn’t even know what a TV movie is.

After that, of course, it’s easy to say that the actors don’t act well. People confuse characters with acting. And just because the twists and turns didn’t go down well doesn’t mean that the director, Kim Farrant, did a bad job. No !A good film that’s unfortunately underrated and misunderstood. I wasn’t bored, the plot is good, the direction is polished and doesn’t deserve such anger! Those who say that even 12-year-olds could have figured out the ending are just arrogant people who haven’t understood a thing. For all I know, they didn’t even watch the whole thing. I find it hard to understand. I saw this film and was hooked from start to finish.

Our dear Blair from Gossip Girl (which isn’t a series I’ve seen, actually, but I know who it is!) proves with this film that Leighton Meester has not only grown in maturity (according to her fans), but also in resonance. We put ourselves in her shoes, understand her point of view and sink into this nightmare with her. The rest of the cast, including Christina Wolfe and Luke Norris, don’t do too badly either, especially Zain (Ziad Bakri).

The film lives up to its promise right up to the last moment, so there’s never a dull moment and time flies. The only downside? An ending that perhaps deserved a longer explanation. The film is a little short to deal with all the issues, and leaves us a little on edge. The landscapes are sublime and the plot well-crafted. There’s no extreme violence, no embarrassing, interminable sex scenes. Everything you need for a good thriller!
