Masters of the Universe: Revelation (2021) Kevin Smith is the director of this relatively unsuccessful new version. I know him to be a big redneck. He wasn’t the best person to recreate such a complex universe. I know he’s in Dogma, as well as Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back in 2000. Two of the lamest films I’ve ever seen. From the information I’ve found: “The split being mainly caused by a section of the public feeling betrayed by Kevin Smith.
Previously, some fans had been concerned about He-Man’s part in the story, following other incidents where they felt that male lead characters were being crowded out and ridiculed in their adventures by female supporting characters. Kevin Smith promised on Twitter that the series would focus on He-Man and the trailers released reinforced this sentiment.
The death of He-Man in the first episode and the relegation of the male characters in favour of a Teela-centric story caused an explosion of resentment on social networks, who felt that Kevin Smith had simply lied to them in order to attract audiences.Following the controversy, Kevin Smith responded by insulting the section of fans who felt betrayed, advising them to grow up. It was also implied that He-Man would have a bigger part in the second season of the series.” But hey!Let’s face it, Kevin probably thought he’d done his best.
He tried to be faithful to the main animated series while being faithful to Gary Goddard’s film. Gary may not have made the best film that could have been made, but at least he’s the only one to date who’s dared to release a film about the franchise. The other two or three films are animated features, if ever.
I could talk for hours about Masters of the Universe. At school, my mates knew that I knew everything there was to know about these characters. Clearly I would have made a better film than Kevin if I’d been a director. And as a mega-fan, I can say he’s ruined it. The height of pathos remains in a sexually charged scene where Evil-Lyn sits astride Skeletor and kisses him. But who would want to kiss a skull?
What I find sad, tragic, even dramatic, is that He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (2002 – 2003), which was a new series at the time, faithfully inspired by the first and produced by Mike Young Productions in 2002, was much better than this crap. Well, at least the first season! At least the first season!
Unfortunately, the second season also went to shit. In the original version, Mark Hamill, already known as the best voice of the Joker, plays Skeletor.
Sarah Michelle Gellar gives her voice to Teela, and Lena Headey to Evil-Lyn. I think that Diedrich Bader is the only one to do two voices, in this case that of King Randor and also that of Trap Jaw.Alicia Silverstone plays Queen Marlena. Harley Quinn Smith, the director’s daughter, is the voice of Illena.
Tiffany Smith, the American actress best known for playing ‘Meghan Markle’ in the 2019 film ‘Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal’, gives her voice to Andra. The end of the second season heralds the arrival of the Horde (the villains of Etheria, the planet where She-Ra is located, led by Hordak).Let’s hope it never happens, so as not to destroy even more characters.
