Missing Mum: The True Story of Jennifer Dulos (2021) American title: Gone Mom . The story of Jennifer Dulos, the wealthy, Connecticut mother-of-five who mysteriously vanished.
I loved Annabeth Gish so much in her small role in Nightmare Cinema (2018) that I suddenly really wanted to see her in a leading role. Alas, all I could find was this TV movie. I hate TV movies in general. But here I thought ‘Come on! It’s only 1h 22min long! It’s based on a true story, and what’s more…’.Plus it’s about a writer! So what happened? A very nice surprise. I was in no way disappointed. I really enjoyed it. It was like watching a great one-episode series.
Annabeth was also in the excellent Before I Wake (2016), she had a role in the X-files series at the time. She was also in the very good Double Jeopardy (1999). I wonder what the Mayfair Witches series is worth, also with Alexandra Daddario in the lead role… In Connecticut, this drama inspired ‘Jennifer’s Law’, which provides better protection for victims of domestic violence.
A law that protects a little better, since it protects even if there has been no physical violence. Which is a good thing, but, obviously, a decision like this is always double-edged, since you can also make more false accusations if you want to get rid of someone. Yes, it’s dramatic. Spoilers without too many consequences: The end of the film and the story is relatively tragic for the children. Although, thankfully, they still have their grandmother.
Good actors, an interesting plot and an impeccable ending. After a retrospective of touching moments from the film, we finally see the face of the real Jennifer, in black and white, before the credits roll.
