Black Island (2021) (Film Review)

Black Island (2021) (“Schwarze Insel”) is a German TV movie co-written and directed by Miguel Alexandre, streaming in 2021 on Netflix.The dark secrets of a seemingly peaceful island threaten to engulf an orphaned high school student when he gets close to a mysterious new teacher…. Starring Philip Froissant, Alice Dwyer and Hanns Zischler.

The film received a rating of 2.7/5! I’m not going to give it much more than that. Considered as a Thriller/Enigma film, I’d say it’s definitely an Erotic Thriller. Indeed, there aren’t just one or two sex scenes, but rather double. A game of seduction and revenge. That’s good… but it could have been even better! It’s not exceptional enough to be seen a second time. It’s not Basic Instinct (1992) or Fatal Attraction (1987)! Nor is it Sleeping with the Enemy (1991) or Obsessed (2009).

There’s no breathtaking suspense. But there are no scenes of extreme violence either. It’s a good TV movie that makes for a good time, and shows that Germans regularly produce good artistic work.
