What Comes Around (2023) A very natural film, in the sense that all the actors play so well that you don’t get the impression that they’re acting. It happens to me sometimes: I watch a film and quickly get caught up in it. But after a while, I wonder ‘What’s the plot? What direction are we going in?”
Because there are films that are very good at setting a scene, making interesting dialogue with endearing characters that aren’t going to be hard to follow, but you don’t necessarily know where it’s going to lead. The trio (Kyle Gallner, Grace Van Dien, Summer Phoenix) work perfectly, all three of them quite incredible.
Summer is one of Joaquin’s sisters. I know almost nothing about her filmography and I should remedy that, because I can see that there are two or three that really interest me. I didn’t even know she had a small role in the late 90s sci-fi horror film The Faculty. A pretty cool film with an incredible cast. After all, it stars Josh Hartnett, Elijah Wood, Clea DuVall, Jordana Brewster, Famke Janssen, Salma Hayek, Usher and Robert Patrick. And that’s just the beginning!
Grace Van Dien is Casper’s daughter (no, no, not the ghost!). A rather promising actress, nothing to say about that. As for Kyle, he’s got quite a presence and a wonderful voice. I could listen to him talk for hours.
What Comes Around is a good film, well directed. For me, it’s far from a waste of time and has quite a few subtleties. Obviously, fans of action films will be bored throughout. So I’m telling you right now: you can quietly and wisely move on!
