Lola rennt/Run Lola Run (1998) Reviewed by Bibo 2021 – Yes !!!!! Ahhhhh, the films of the 90s! Ah, German films! There are some real gems here. Without being a masterpiece in my eyes, this film is still pure joy.
It’s great to see Franka Potente running for half the film, and I say that without irony. The way she runs is classy, energetic and fun to watch. The direction is brilliant, those film-cartoon-film passages are mythical. The story is fun, the twists good and the winks very nice. Even when you’re afraid it’s going to be too repetitive, there’s always something to surprise you.
The downside is that it’s not a film I’ll be watching too often. I think once the surprise has worn off, there’s no surprise left. It’s not like a 6th sense where you want to watch the film again to see it from another angle. I have to say that when you see the concept and the story of the film, you’re a little afraid of what it’s going to be like. Is she really just going to run? If she runs for 20 minutes, how are we going to fill the 1 hour 17 minutes? All these questions are answered, and in a subtle way… it’s just that we don’t want to see it again just yet!
