The Neon Demon (2016) (Film Review)

The Neon Demon (2016) Seriously? In general, if I’m in the middle of a film and I’ve already started writing the review, that’s not a good sign. I think if we grouped all the great moments together, we could get to about 10 minutes. A little less…What kind of substance did the director use? Seriously! How could anyone finish this movie, watch it again and say, “Okay, that’s good!” At the very least, he could have added: “It’s a big mess, but it doesn’t matter! We’ll see through it!”

After an hour, it became unbearable. I really wanted to cut, to stop, to fast-forward. Movies are very likely that I’ll always watch them to the end. If I could give this film a minus 5, I’d give it even less. Elle Fanning is no match for her sister Dakota. This is the second time I’ve seen her act completely banal compared to her sister. Perhaps she’s playing completely differently on purpose, to prove that she can get by without being in the shadow of a well-known family member. Alas, I think it’s rather a failure. She plays an irresistible character. They could have chosen much better! If you absolutely must see this film, plan something else to do on the side, to make the pill passable.

Jena Malone is a fine actress. In this case, she must have chosen the wrong door. And bad luck: still, in my humble opinion, when Keanu Reeves is in a movie, chances are it’s going to fly off the handle and not smell very good. Betrayal, necrophilia, jealousy…This film is scary! From its depiction of the fashion world, to its music, to its unhealthy, unsightly, uninteresting side. We can’t wait for the credits to roll. What’s more, we discover that this piece of garbage is dedicated to someone! If the person is deceased, they must be stirring in their grave. I feel horrible and mean in my criticism, but at some point, you’ve got to stop taking us for hicks! A film that claims to be avant-garde, intelligent, intellectual, apparently auteur!

Sorry, but in my humble opinion, if a film is boring to death, long, slow and uninteresting… it’s not necessarily a good film!!!! There was one positive review that complemented mine: “I’m not necessarily going to defend this film, aesthetically it’s beautiful. To say that it’s an intellectual film, no, far from it, it’s still a horror film. Elle Fanning doesn’t play as well as her sister, that’s undeniable, she always has the same expression throughout the film. It’s interesting to see it because of the subject matter, i.e. the fashion world but with cannibalism. I loved the idea. This film could have been better, but overall I enjoyed it. Yes it’s an independent film and that’s what’s good about it.”

And there was also this negative mini review: “Well. i didn’t expect anything from this film…. but unfortunately that’s what happened… too bad….Also visually badly copied from a lynch.”
