The Jester – He will terrify you (2023) Here are two paragraphs about this independent film: “On Halloween, a killer in a top hat and clown mask terrorises a small American town. It’s clear that the disturbing creature is targeting Emma and Jocelyn, who always manage to narrowly escape. The two alienated sisters, born of the same father but different mothers, realise that they have a destiny: To defeat the monster, they must seek answers in their dark pasts.Following on from the likes of Stitches, es and Terrifier, the next serial killer in a creepy clown mask is sure to make our blood run cold: THE JESTER is a great abomination that horror fans will love. The orange-suited villain was created by Colin Krawchuk – his trilogy of short films featuring the killer clown has been viewed over 30 million times on YouTube! Produced by Blair Witch Project co-creator Eduardo Sánchez, among others, the feature turns out to be an atmospheric slasher movie with an exciting new face of evil.”

So yes, the clown is scary! But the film isn’t that incredible, because it’s really hard to find good films with killer clowns. The actors and actresses do fairly well, but they’re not transcendent either. The story is correct. It’s pretty much based on the death of a father who actually had two daughters from different mothers. Reunions, arguments and reconciliation are all part of this film. There are moments that are a little funnier, moments that are gripping and disturbing, and touching little moments. It’s fun horror entertainment that isn’t all gore and splatter. It’s easy to watch.

Admittedly, there are some long stretches and things that don’t add up. The Jester is an old legend, well known to Americans, an evil clown who comes back to haunt and kill you every Halloween. Many have been inspired by him, like the Mask and his brightly coloured 1950s costumes. He has the cane, the walk and the class of John Steed or the Joker.

In a single image, the aim of a film poster is to inform you about the style of the film, the story and, above all, to attract you to the film. In this case, it’s a total success! What a beautiful poster! The problem is that the film’s entire budget went into the poster, because that’s the only thing that really works!

So… on a more serious note: Film shot in the streets and film studios of Dallas, Texas, the studios that gave us the series “Dallas”, “Walker Texas Ranger”, as well as famous films such as: “JFK”, “Robocop”, “Batman and Robin”, “Borat”, “Bonnie & Clyde”, “Born on the 4th of July”, “Independence Day”, and many others. These studios sometimes make bad, even very bad or very bad films!

As for Scott Derrickson, he copied almost everything from the mask and his diabolically frozen smile for his character in “The Black Phone”.

The story is sad and dramatic, but the villain is the main interest of the story. Apart from each arrival of the Jester, it’s a little too talky, a little lame and too long, just like my review of this film, which doesn’t deserve as much.

That said, it’s worth making up your own mind, because nobody has to think like I do. So… apart from the character itself, which is as good as the poster, the film isn’t worth much.
