The Truman Show (1998) OK, there may be a few long stretches… which don’t make it a masterpiece!
But the story itself is!!! Jim Carrey, the man with the most open conscience these days, was already ahead of his time when it came to reality TV in this film. He excelled in this film. It’s probably the first film where he’s not just making faces. He’s in a world where people are more concerned with other people on TV than with themselves.
And the reality created for him is ultimately similar to our own reality. Lots of strong messages. Yes, you have to surpass yourself to find reality. You have to know how to lose everything in order to gain everything afterwards. You have to be at your worst to know what it’s like to get better. Life is proof. And we all have within us the strength, courage and power to control our lives and do what we want with them.
This film understood a lot of things! What a great entrance, but above all… what a great exit!
