Hush (2016) Not a sound !!! Another totally cruel home invasion, with a first quarter-hour that sets the tone, given that the first murder is already extremely brutal. It’s the kind of modern knife murder where the killer delivers a series of repeated blows, leaving his victim riddled with holes.

In short Kate Siegel is an extraordinary actress! I think she’s a safe bet, and her performances are consistently brilliant. She plays a deaf writer who is stalked by a man with a gun. But since the windows of her house are super-strong, the criminal can’t get in as easily. What’s more, with each attempt to escape or find a new option or pseudo-solution, one or other of them becomes more and more injured. There’s nothing like trauma to solve the problem of the blank page!

A relatively violent film, with plenty of suspense. There are the typical elements of this kind of film, such as the super-nice person who arrives on the scene. You think she’s going to save the situation, but she makes it worse. I’m not going to give it 5 stars for the extreme violence, especially at the beginning, but also at the end, and for the exaggerations, such as the way the killer gets into the house, the stab wound he misses in the back of the neck just afterwards, etc.

Mike Flanagan, known for his horror serials such as The Haunting of Hill House (2018) and The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020), for example (both starring Kate, by the way!) signs off here with a brutal film, but one to be seen once for fans of horror/thriller. Of course, extreme violence fanatics will find the film too gentle. But my criticism isn’t aimed at them ;-D They can just go and look elsewhere. I’ve already seen this film twice. The very end is pretty cool.
