Cabin Fever (2002) (Film Review)

Cabin Fever (2002) I wrote this review on 29. April 2015. I’ve got mixed feelings about it. In any case, I have a choice! The choice to talk about it a lot or a little. To say it’s rubbish or brilliant. To say that I didn’t like it at all, that it wasn’t so bad or that, after much reflection, it’s really good, even perfect. But I’ll have to choose an option. But which one? To be objective or subjective? If this film is second-rate and doesn’t take itself at all seriously, then it could be a masterpiece.

Unfortunately, I doubt that’s the case! I think the scriptwriters also had to change course. It’s as if they said to themselves, we’re going to plunge into a very gloomy, sad, frightening and captivating atmosphere and then, suddenly, along the way, they said to themselves: ‘But here, we can do lots of gags! And stupid ones at that! So we can do them right to the end! You’ve got it: after trying to defend this film, I opted to shoot it down a bit. Because in the end, it’s a load of rubbish.

So it all depends on what you’re looking for. If you want to see a film full of incoherence just because you like gore, you don’t like to think, you don’t like to ask yourself questions, you like to see young people smoking-drinking-fucking themselves to death or dying of incomprehensible illnesses, you can be presented with anything without you batting an eyelid… then this is the film for you! No one’s in their place, no one’s doing their job properly, everyone’s weird, the music is scary at the beginning, hilarious towards the end, a couple of interesting details like the fact that, at the conclusion, we witness a sort of new beginning…

If you don’t like horror films, this isn’t the one that’s going to reconcile you with the genre. And it really doesn’t make you want to see the two sequels, given that the first ones are often the best! I was really hooked at the beginning. But in the end, I feel like I’ve wasted my time… which allowed me to have fun writing this review ;-D
