The Whale (2022) The Whale is an American film directed by Darren Aronofsky, released in 2022. It is based on the play of the same name by Samuel D. Hunter, which premiered ten years earlier, in 2012.
This drama tells the story of an obese middle-aged man who wants to get closer to his daughter, whom he once abandoned.
The film stars Brendan Fraser and Sadie Sink. The film helped the actor regain his popularity. Brendan was born in the US state of Indiana to Canadian parents. He comes from a family of Irish, Scottish, German, Czech and French-Canadian descent. His father worked in the travel and tourism industry. Because of his father’s work, the family had to move regularly, so Fraser moved around a lot as a child. The film won the Oscar for best actor, Brendan, and best make-up in 2023.
The main character reminded me of the first victim in the film Seven (1995).This film is a closed-door affair, of course. It is considered a masterpiece by a whole category of people. There’s a reason for that! It’s extremely moving and profound.
Brendan Fraser, whom I already like a lot, delivers a performance of rarely seen intensity. What’s more, the film asks a central and important question: what’s really important in life? A very good film.
Well acted and touching. A must-see.I thought this review was nice: “Once again, a film that achieves its quality through excellent acting and not through computer effects. Brendan Fraser outdoes himself here, wow… what a comeback!!!! The Oscar is more than deserved.”
That said, the film is depressing as hell and leaves us with a grim and sad impression. The characters are interesting. And the ending is very artistic.
