Ryde (2017) I’d already seen this film when it came out and I’d already been shocked by its brutality. I was a bit of a masochist about seeing it again, but it was just to see if I could stand it better the second time. The answer is no, of course not! He’s even worse than I remembered… This time, I’m writing my review and I’m clearly not going to watch it a third time. Two is more than enough, three is ten times too many!

This was the first film I’d ever seen where the murders are carried out in a series of very quick stabbings. And now it’s become fashionable. Even Scream has taken up the concept. But there’s also the series of punches in the face, armed with brass knuckles, which reduce the head to a pulp. That’s the fire extinguisher from the film Irreversible that brought it into fashion. But as a bonus, the head comes off the body, so much so that it’s reduced to pieces. As you will have gathered, Ryde is a film of totally gratuitous violence, with no subtlety whatsoever. All the murders are horribly gruesome. And frankly, it’s poorly directed and clumsily scripted. The criminal starts off by killing the first people who come along. But then we meet some annoying characters and that alone justifies their deaths in this dreck.

A bit easy and clearly a film for angry frustrated people. As a result, I’m extremely happy that Brian Frank Visciglia hasn’t made another film to my knowledge. Let’s hope it stays that way. Let’s hope it stays that way! On the other hand, if all this is your cup of tea, go for it! But if it is, I’m surprised you haven’t seen it yet!

The main young woman, Jasmine, is adorable from the very first scene and makes the film slightly bearable. She finds a purse and decides to find its owner (and we’ll never know!). We wonder what she’s doing in a relationship with a bastard who has no respect for anyone but himself. What’s more, he’s reluctant to take the notes from the purse. And he asks Jasmine to hurry up and get ready for the evening, otherwise the longer he waits, the more he’ll drink. That shows how good he is!

From then on, we wonder if there will be any justice in this film, given that a brutal killer will play a role and kill just about anyone. The answer is No! In fact, he seduces people simply for the pleasure of slaughtering them. No, despite her great character, actress Jessica Michél can’t save this film one iota. The more it progresses, the worse it gets. And I’m not even talking about the ending. It’s enough to put you off taking an Uber. But if you watch all horror films, there’s nothing to do afterwards.

The year after, there was Ride (2018) which was significantly less violent, a little funnier (it’s not hard!), but was based on the same concept of cars competing with Taxis. The film stars Bella Thorne, but it’s still pretty good. Unless you adore this actress-singer! In that case, you’ll be delighted to see her again.
