Pacific Rim 2 – Uprising (2018) Oh, no, you don’t! Tell me I’m dreaming! Is this another sequel? Guillermo Del Toro makes way for Steven S. DeKnight. I wonder what he thinks? Will he put things right with a third instalment? First of all, I’m one of those people who didn’t love the first one…Yes, yes, unlike many of you! So my expectations for this one were immense. Indeed, I had to set my sights pretty high to do better. In the end, after seeing this one, I almost say to myself that the first one wasn’t so bad after all! I think they’re both pretty good, but this one is still inferior.
As soon as I saw that a teenage girl had made her own robot (well, well, Jaegers, yes! Don’t get upset!!!) and that she was piloting it all by herself… I said to myself that it stinks! And when you see that the other main character is the son of the sacrificed hero, but he’s a rebellious teenager… I thought I was going to be bored for nearly two hours. Having said that, there are some excellent action scenes, especially the 4 Jaegers against the three Kaiju.
A friend told me it’s Transformers versus Godzilla. Yes, that’s exactly what it is! But I should point out that I didn’t like Transformers, but I’m prepared to give it another chance. So maybe I’ll watch the sequels. Like Pirates of the Caribbean, where I’ve only seen the first one too. As for Godzilla, I haven’t seen it. Nor the second King Kong. I’ve got a lot of films to see! And when you consider that I’m interested in all styles, I’ve got enough to last me the rest of my life just with the films I’ve already seen! Well, I’ve got to stop wandering off. This opus begins with battles between Jaegers. Traitors appear. As a result, there’s a lack of monsters!
Interesting point of view, but we can’t wait to see the new creatures. And this time we get to see them by day and in the rain, without waves or water, in short… we get to see them pretty well. Still with ugly faces that are hard to unravel, but it’s nice. The problem is that while it’s nice to see some of the actors again, the most important ones are no longer there, have become unbearable or make a brief appearance. Ron Perlman must not have felt like signing on. Or maybe he wasn’t even asked, because you don’t know he’s still alive unless you watch the end credits in their entirety.
If a third episode appeared, they’d really have to bring back the actors from the first, mix them with those from the second, make the creatures even scarier…I can’t imagine what would come of it! And what other story could they come up with?
There’s already been plenty of gaps, plenty of action, too many things! I’m not very optimistic. They could have made a magnificent ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ if they’d taken the ingredients of the excellent ‘Days of Future Past’. But no, they didn’t! I’m sure this film lost even the fans of the first one. Well, sometimes the thirds are better than the seconds, like in Scream! Or complementary like Jurassic Park 3.That’s just my opinion. I’ll leave you to it, folks!
