Two Lovers (2008) A relatively rubbish film with a trio of brilliant actors and actresses. Vinessa Shaw is adorable here in her role as a woman in love. Gwyneth Paltrow is great in her role as a lost woman. As for Joaquin Phoenix, I’d say he’s disgustingly weak and cowardly. You can feel his loneliness, but it’s his selfishness that overflows. There is also Isabella Rossellini whom we hardly see her at all, and anyone could have played her.

No, really, it’s just a pleasure to see these actors, but the plot is slow and so is the pace. I was bored out of my mind, wondering why I’d chosen this film tonight and praying for a happy ending. But nothing too surprising!

When you gamble and bet too much, you can burn your wings and lose everything. That’s no scoop! The film, despite starting out rather nicely, loses its way, just like its main characters. Its attempt to convey a message falls flat. There’s nothing we haven’t seen better elsewhere.
